These El Caminos have a cult following today considering General Motors stopped making the iconic caRTruck vehicles several decades ago and have no plans to reintroduce in the future. This particular car, according to the seller, was completely frame-off restored in the last 5 years at a professional body shop and garage in Phoenix, Arizona. A bright red paintjob with custom flames and pinstriping with a red/white cloth interior and a re-carpeted floor are the highlights on the cosmetic side of this build. As far as the powertrain is concerned, this El Camino features a rebuilt big-block 454 CID V8 motor and a Turbo-400 3-speed automatic transmission. This vehicle falls into the fourth generation of Ford's 'personal luxury' cars that was produced from 1964-1966. There were a couple changes for '65 from '64 models including the 'Thunderbird' script on the hood being replaced by an emblem, addition of sequential turn signals and standard front disc brakes. The T-Bird in 1965 started competing with Ford's blockbuster hit Mustang, which did affect sales numbers slightly but by no means meant this car was any less desirable. This Thunderbird is painted in White and its hard not to fall for the beautiful, aerodynamic lines and shimmering chrome everywhere you look. The 60's was an era of excess that's for sure! You don't get a puny powerplant either; the 390 CID V8 engine that the seller claims is 'numbers matching' (unverified by Gateway Classic Cars) was also rebuilt around 1,500 miles ago. The 390 motor was rated at 300hp and 427lb ft of torque for 1965 according to online literature. A 3-speed automatic transmission came standard with this car and offers column shift operation. Hudson Motor Car Company manufactured vehicles from 1909 to 1954 in Detroit, Michigan and later merged with Nash-Kelvinator to form American Motors Corporation (AMC). Hudson pioneered many first in the automotive industry, including a balanced crankshaft which allowed for more power out of smaller 6-cylinder engine blocks. The flathead 'Super Six' in this car is specifically a 288 cubic inch displacement and for 1929 was rated at 92 horsepower. The motor is paired to a 3-speed manual transmission with the shifter located on the floor and provides an authentic but spirited driving experience. It's not as slow as you might think! Onlookers are particularly impressed by the overall appearance of this vehicle, which has been repainted in Green and Black two tone. There's a lot of body to take in on this imposing Hudson, from the large cylindrical 'Parabeam' headlights up front to the spare tire holders, vinyl roof, wood spoke wheels and rear luggage rack.
