Perhaps the last of the 'real Mustangs' 1973 saw the end of the V8 (for a short time), and the Sportsroof shape enthusiasts had come to love. In 1973, the top of the line trim level was the Mach 1. In this case the Mach 1 sports a 351 CID Cleveland V8 engine which was rated at 177 horsepower. Backing the 351` is a C4 automatic transmission which will get you where you need to go with ease. The E, for -Extreme,- goes far beyond the usual bolt-on power route, with a highly internally modified version of Ford-s 4. 6L SOHC V-8. Saleen developed and built this new engine in house, under the eyes of powerplant guru Bill Tally and chief engineer Neil Hannemann. You may recognize the latter as the guy who taught the Dodge Viper how to race. He developed the GTS-R into a multiple GT-championship and three-time Le Mans class winner. Out go the stock crankshaft, pistons, connecting rods, camshafts, and valve springs in favor of more durable, highly tuned Saleen-spec components. This modified long block is fed air and fuel through a 90mm mass air unit, a larger inlet tube, and a new intake manifold. The leftovers exit via a 2. 5-in. stainless-steel exhaust system including a newly developed X-pipe and dual center-exit tips. Saleen tops it off with a high-quality Lysholm twin-screw supercharger and a water-to-air intercooler, then backs it up with a Tremec T-56 six-speed manual trans and an 11-in. clutch. From 1979-1993, Ford sold possibly the most successful Mustang generation ever. Referred to as the 'Fox Body', these small, lightweight chassis were best enjoyed with the famous 5. 0 Liter V8. Often referred to as the 'Five-O', this 302 CI V8 was a gem. This particular Fox Body is a GT hatchback which sports the 5. 0 Liter. This is not your everyday Mach 1. Having been through a lot of reconditioning this is a really good example of an early 70-s Mustang. New great quality paint and interior are just a start on this car. Almost all of the components of this car have been redone in one way or another. Starting with the engine, the original 351 Cleveland suffered catastrophic failure, so in went a rebuilt 351 Windsor engine. This was not just some off the shelf small block though. It is topped with AFR aluminum cylinder heads with roller rockers and is backed by a rebuilt C6 transmission. There is new exhaust as well that The gas tank was replaced with a new unit as were the rear leaf springs, shocks, all of the brake pads and shoes, and front calipers.
