BACKGROUND: The Model A paved the way for mass-produced vehicles. By the end of the run, Ford had produced almost 5 million Model As. These vehicles could be purchased in a variety of body styles. From sporty roadsters to industrial trucks, the platform was extremely versatile. This particular example is the popular two-door, 5 window coupe, and features a fold-a-way rumble seat behind the cab of the car. 1931 would be the last year for the ever-popular Model A. Most would say the 5 window to be one of the most popular, especially for hot rodders.
However, this fine example is no hot rod. This is a very well cared for original that has been fitted with some aftermarket add ons. First, and fairly common, are the add on turn signals. The next one is a big one, an inline gear reduction unit, a. k. a. an overdrive unit. This will make highway speeds a reality. It engages electronically via a switch located on the steering column.
