The original 390 CID V8 was removed an in its place is a 427 Genesis side oiler block that has been stroked to 484 CID and topped with aluminum Edelbrock Performer heads that have been ported and run 10. 5 to 1 compression. The engine also contains a Crane solid roller cam and roller rockers, an 870 cfm Holley carburetor, and custom Tri-Y headers leading to 3 inch exhaust tubing. At a dyno confirmed 571 ft/lbs of torque and 474 horsepower, the rest of the drivetrain needed to be upgraded as well. The transmission is a built up AOD 4 speed automatic transmission with an 1,800 rpm stall converter that is rated for 800 horsepower. This feeds a custom 5 inch diameter driveshaft that is run to a Ford 9 inch rear end with 4. 10 gears and a heavy duty locker. This Mustang is a show stopper. The black paint looks amazing and is nicely complimented with silver racing stripes. The Halibrand style polished aluminum wheels are American Racing Shelby and are wrapped in Good Year rubber. The front tires are 215/45R17 and 235/45R17 in the rear. Giving this Mustang such a perfect ride height is a set of coil over shocks in the back with traction bars and sport springs up front. Power four wheel disc brakes make for easy and issue free stopping. A giant improvement over the factory four wheel drums. Power steering aids in easy driving around town and the strut tower brace makes for great corner carving. Ford and Shelby have a long history of churning out performance Machines. The GT500 name had not been used on a Mustang since 1969.

The GT500 model was announced at the 2005 New York Auto Show and deliveries began in 2006. Under the hood is a supercharged and intercooled 5. 4L V8 or 330 cubic inches. With the extra nudge from the supercharger this is rated at 500HP stock. Putting power to the rear wheels with the help of the upgrade Tokico shocks and springs is a Tremec 6 speed transmission. The rear gears were upgraded to Ford Racing 3. 73 and the setup is the perfect balance of interstate cruising or fast driving. There are quite a few tasteful modifications that are primarily Ford Racing based.
