The Beetle was first produced in the 1930s with the intentions of becoming the 'people's car' or Volkswagen in German. Volkswagen was the brainchild of Adolf Hitler to produce a reliable vehicle for the hardworking people of Germany, and a car that was not only inexpensive but safe to drive. In fact, the Beetle was to be mass produced and sell for 1000 Reich Marks or about $140. Unfortunately, by 1939 World War II had begun ending production of the Beetle shortly after the first car came off the assembly line. After the war ended, Allies helped resurrect the German auto industry to become a global enterprise. We love our VW bugs here, and we know that the general public and classic car nuts feel the same.
