Very nice original low mile pace car that has won Bloomington Gold Survivor...

This black beauty runs and looks amazing and spent most of its early life in Colorado and it shows. The underside of this Bird is extremely solid and well preserved for a 1978 and nice examples of these second generation Firebirds are becoming hard to find and sought after by collectors. This one includes the added provenance of the build sheet and as well as receipts of the recent work completed. A sales brochure and additional receipts will also be furnished to the next proud owner.

In 1978 there were only 810 W72 - 400 - 4-speeds produced and one can only guess how many have survived. The black cloth bucket seats appear to be original and after being driven only 65,823 miles since new most all components appear to be original. The headliner has been recently replaced and any items that required service were attended to by professionals.

The 78 Pace car is one of the most collected Corvettes. Just 6,502 of these very special Black and Silver Corvette models were ever produced, each with a unique VIN sequence, this is 4764. The 25th anniversary Corvette was treated to one of the most extensive redesigns of the Corvette since the 1968 model. The new -fastback- rear end styling featured a large rear window, reminiscent of the lines of the '60s. The interior of the 1978 Pace Car sported a special -clam shell- seat. This Pace Car Edition includes the sought-after L82 350 CI engine with an automatic transmission. The same year that this car was produced Grease and Superman was in theaters for the first time! This one features the L33 425 CID V8 that first debuted in 1977. The main change for 1978 was a new grille which really sets it off nicely. After all these years it has still only covered 31,928 miles. That-s only 818 miles per year which is unbelievable for something so awesome to drive. The seating is just like you would expect from a Cadillac of this era. Super soft and supple leather which is in beautiful condition. It-s probably comfier than your bed! The paint was professionally redone 4 years ago in the current color, the radiator had it-s core redone, it had new belts, hoses, thermostat, front axels, cv joints, new plugs, a/c converter was done, new evaporator, accumulator, transmission service, power steering replaced, valve cover gasket done, cooling system was flushed and refilled and it got new shocks on all four corners. The 1978 Indy 500 Pace Car marked the first time a Corvette was chosen as the pace car for the Indy 500, and happened to be the 25th anniversary of the Corvette. This extremely well-cared for Corvette was purchased by its second owner in 1981 and has remained in the family since then. Powered by its original (numbers-matching) L82 350 CID small block engine, backed by its original TH350 3-speed automatic, this car's odometer is showing what the owner states to be 9258 original miles. The L82 was the performance-oriented choice over the L48 option, and in 1978 was putting out 220HP (vs 185HP for the L48). Only 6,502 Indianapolis 500 Pace Car edition Corvettes were built, ensuring that they will continue to become harder to find as time goes on and more of them go by the wayside.
