The Dana 60 rear end came off a 1970 Plymouth Cuda Hemi. Labeled the 'Corvette Competition,' the AMX offered top-notch performance at an affordable price. An estimated 500 million people worldwide watch in awe as Neil Armstrong takes his historic first steps on the Moon and American Motors Corp. released the anticipated AMX. The AMX offered top-notch performance at an affordable price.
Despite this value and enthusiastic initial reception by automotive media and enthusiasts, sales never thrived. The automaker's larger objectives to refocus AMC's image on performance and to bring younger customers into its dealer showrooms was achieved.
