1968 marked the first year of the newer, sleeker more round body styling. Sales took off with the new look and to this day is what people know a Chevelle to be. Originally from Texas, this car was completely gone though to bring it to the beautiful condition it is in today. A very potent newly built 396 was dropped in that had a new intake and Holley 750 4 barrel sitting on top just to give it a little more power. This motor was rebuilt in Texas in 1996. Just to insure that motor stays cool and continues to run smooth a new aluminum radiator with dual fans was installed. The transmission is the original, highly sought after, Muncie M-22 with the classic Hurst shifter that came in the car. It has been rebuilt as well with all receipts confirming the work performed. The rear end is the classic 12 bolt posi with a set of 3. 73 giving it decent highway drivability. It is coated in a beautiful red paint with red interior. It features a 454ci Chevrolet V8 with a 4 speed transmission. It rumbles like a beast! It has power steering, power brakes, rally wheels and aluminum rims. 1966 saw a complete restyle of the Chevelle on the previous frame that included smooth contours, a broad new grille and bumper treatment, and curved side windows. Bulging rear fender lines and a 'flying buttress' roofline (tunneled into the 'C' pillar) were highlights of the '66 hardtops, shared with other GM 'A' body models. The new body reflected the 'Coke bottle' body shape that became the fad for American cars in the mid-1960s. A 4-door hardtop-styled Sport Sedan joined the Malibu series. Now available in our DFW-Showroom is this impressive 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle. The 1971 Chevelle-s were treated to new front-end and rear-end styling that included large Power-Beam single-unit headlights, a reworked grille and bumper, and integral park/signal/marker lights. New dual round taillights were integral with the back bumper. Because SS models suffered heavy insurance surcharges, Chevrolet introduced the 'Heavy Chevy' at midyear, which was based on the base Chevelle, and was available with any V8 engine except the 454, which was exclusive to SS models. The Heavy Chevy was only available with the base Chevelle sport coupe and was primarily a dress up option and even it was limited to options available on the standard Chevelle sport coupe; vinyl carpeting, front bench seat, no center console shift, etc. Both 350 V8 engines, as well as the dual exhaust 402 cid V8 engine, were available without the SS option; only the LS5 454 V8 required the SS option. This 138 series Chevelle SS has a 396 CID V8 and GM TH400 3-speed automatic. The big 396 sends its twist out back to a GM 12-bolt rear end. Atop the 396 is a Weiand Street Warrior aluminum intake manifold and Holley 4BBL carb, which help this Chevy Rat Motor breathe better than stock, making plenty of torque for launching, and plenty of power for passing those Prius drivers. Cast iron exhaust manifolds funnel the spent gases into the dual exhaust and help provide a nice muscle sound, albeit more subtly than if it had headers. A thoughtful add was the inclusion of a big aluminum radiator to help keep things running cool.

Speaking of cool, this SS 396 Chevelle comes with the bonus of Vintage Air A/C, which is a big plus for driving around when it's hot outside, or when it's super humid and one needs dehumidified air to keep the windows from fogging. The driver-quality Ermine White paint is in decent shape, with only minor discoloration and a few surface bubbles on the hood; but according to its owner, the car is sporting its 52-year old original sheet metal.
