As cars in the 50's and the 60's became larger and larger, a more practical and affordable car was needed due to changing government guidelines and gas pricing. The Chevrolet Chevelle was produced for this reason and was is a smaller mid-sized automobile from the larger predecessors. Chevrolet produced the Chevelle in three generations for the 1964 through 1978 model years as part of the General Motors A-body platform and the Chevelle was one of Chevrolet's most successful nameplates. Body styles included coupes, sedans, convertibles, and station wagons. The 'Super Sport' versions were produced up to the 1973 model year.
