The Mustang was introduced to the public on April 17, 1964 and soon went on to be Fords most successful launch since the Model A. The Mustang created the 'pony car' class of American automobiles-'sports-car like coupes with long hoods and short rear decks and gave rise to competitors such as the Chevrolet Camaro, Pontiac Firebird, AMC Javelin, Chrysler's revamped Plymouth Barracuda and the first generation Dodge Challenger. This particular Mustang started its life as a Summertime Yellow over Black 6cylinder with a 3 speed transmission. This car was restored about 20 years ago and was not designed to be a trailer queen. The original 351 Cleveland engine was rebuilt 15 years ago and has about 4,000 miles on it since then. The motor is connected to the original FMX automatic transmission. The engine has a chrome air filter Chrome Ford Performance Valve covers, and a chrome Master Cylinder. Down the center of the hood is a black racing stripe with 351 written around the non-functional hood scoop. To keep the hood down and in place while you are eating up the pavement are the optional chrome quick release locking hood pins. The Satellite was introduced in 1965 and was the top trim model in the Belvidere line. It-s hard to imagine that this vehicle was actually considered to be a mid-sized car of the time. By 1970 the American public was fashion-forward with bright colors, platform shoes and bell bottoms of course. The style of automobiles was just as modern and somewhat flamboyant. The name Satellite even takes you back in time and evokes that era of the space landing. Madison Avenue was also in full swing and created advertisements for the 1970 Plymouth line that looked more like an advertisement for a concert than a car.
