This black beauty runs and looks amazing and spent most of its early life in Colorado and it shows. The underside of this Bird is extremely solid and well preserved for a 1978 and nice examples of these second generation Firebirds are becoming hard to find and sought after by collectors. This one includes the added provenance of the build sheet and as well as receipts of the recent work completed. In 1978 there were only 810 W72 - 400 - 4-speeds produced and one can only guess how many have survived. The black cloth bucket seats appear to be original and after being driven only 65,823 miles since new most all components appear to be original. The headliner has been recently replaced and any items that required service were attended to by professionals.

1999 introduced a face-lifted Firebird to the world. The new body was more aerodynamic than the previous design, and sported an overall more muscular look. The big difference, however, was under the hood. The previous 5. 7L LT1 engine was removed from the lineup and replaced with the legendary LS1. The engine was identical to that of the previous model Corvette. Purists have claimed that the LS1 was underrated at 345 horsepower, with good reason. Factory stock cars have shown these vehicles making that much horsepower at the rear wheels, rather than the crankshaft. This example, has also had a handheld programmer unlock a few extra horses from the stable, and should be making closer to 365. Power is put through an automatic transmission to the 10-bolt posi-trac rear end.

The Bright Red paint still shines like new, as does the black leather interior. The car has only driven just under 15,000 miles since new. This truly is a time Machine to the last generation of the Firebird to ever exist. This 20th Anniversary Pace Car edition is #56 of only 1,555 produced and argued to be the most powerful and refined Firebird. Fitted with the same turbocharged 3. 8L V6 found in the Buick GNX paired to the 200-4R transmission that were rebuilt about 1,000 miles ago, this Trans Am has a need for speed. Pontiac rated it at 250 horsepower, but the GM factory dyno rang up 300 horsepower on a pretty consistent basis. It handles the curves in the road just as it's meant to.

The white exterior paint is believed to be mostly original and is in good condition. The camel colored leather interior is very clean as evident by the photos. The back seats fold down for added cargo space. The rear hatch has a retractable cover and hold the storage bag for the T-tops.
