The Chrysler 300 'letter series' were high-performance luxury cars built in very limited numbers by the Chrysler Corporation in the U. S. from 1955-'1965. Each year's model used a new letter of the alphabet as a suffix (skipping 'i'), reaching 300L by 1965, after which the model was dropped. 1957 was the first year a convertible was offered in the 300 series and was the pinnacle of performance and luxury. The Hemi head engine was backed by a 3 speed Torqueflite A488 automatic transmission which is great for cruising speeds, and really set the interior apart with its push button operation. This car is one of the rarest classics on the market today as the total sales included only 522 coupes and 125 convertibles! Finding one in this condition with its numbers matching drive train is near impossible. The 1959 model year saw the Hemi engines replaced by Chrysler's new Golden Lion wedge-head V8 at 413 cu in displacement (which Chrysler called 'lion-hearted'). Power output was claimed to be 380 hp! This numbers matching engine is mated to the original 3-speed automatic transmission that is actually push button operated and puts the power to the ground through a posi traction rear end! The odometer is reading 80,043 and this is believed to be the miles on the chassis, the car did undergo a frame off restoration and the drivetrain has been rebuilt to keep it running strong. During the rebuilt, a Vintage A/C system, new front suspension, new paint, new interior was all redone. This specific Imperial is a 1962 Pre-Production vehicle that spent its whole life being pampered by a long time Chrysler employee. This specific Imperial was used for Auto Show reveals and even Chrysler commercials in the early 1960's. In 1955, Chrysler made an attempt to completely separate the Imperial nameplate in hopes of competing with large American luxury companies such as Cadillac and Lincoln. Although this attempt failed, it does not take away from the amazing design and craftsmanship on this Imperial. With under 17,000 original miles, this Imperial is easily capable of walking away with multiple awards at any car show. Equipped with a 413CID V8, This Imperial has more than enough power to move around. The monstrous motor is matted to a 3-Speed Automatic Push Button Transmission.
