John and Horace Dodge were 2 brothers who moved to Detroit at the turn of the century. They then began making engine and chassis components for a number of automobile firms, including the already established Olds Motor Vehicle Company. Henry Ford soon heard about the two brothers and was so impressed that in 1903 he awarded them the contract to supply all of the drive trains for his line of vehicles. By 1914 the relations ship between Ford and the Dodge brothers had eroded, leading to the brothers building their first Dodge vehicle for the public. It was an instant success, and the Dodge Motor Company was born.
