The Dune Buggy craze of the 1960s represents an extremely fun page in automotive history. Founded in Southern California by Bruce Meyer who worked as an artist, engineer, surfer, and boat builder, he came up with the idea for building fun and interesting looking fiberglass bodies that could be retro fitted onto an existing Volkswagen Beetle chassis with a ready to roll drive train. These dune buggies proved to be very useful for handling to terrain of sand dunes, desserts, and beaches alike. The popularity of the Dune Buggy was also seen in pop culture, being featured in popular movies, cartoons, TV shows and even getting a few Matchbox castings and car for Barbie!
