The 'Starfire' nameplate was first introduced in 1954 in conjunction with the Oldsmobile Ninety-eight convertibles. By 1961 the Starfire became a stand-alone model to compete in the luxury car market as a convertible only. By 1962 a hardtop model hit the market with record sales of 34,839 units sold. The Starfire shared sheet metal with other full-sized Oldsmobile models but sported unique trim and one of the most luxurious interiors in the Oldsmobile lineup.
