The Dodge Challenger traces its humble beginnings to the Pony Car war raging in the late 1960s where manufacturers set out to outdo each other in horsepower, performance and youth appeal. Chrysler, in need of a new platform to compete with Camaros and Mustangs, created the new E-Body providing more space up front for more equipment and most importantly, more engine. Debuting in 1970, Plymouth-s --Cuda and Dodge-s Challenger were at the front line successfully competing against the other pony cars.
