The Lemans was marketed from 1961 to 1981. The Lemans started life as an upgrade trim package on the Tempest and became a stand-alone model in 1963. This 1969 Lemans is considered a third-generation model which ran from 1968-1972. The Pontiac GTO made its entrance in 1963 for the 1964 model year. Considered by many to be the poster child starting what has become the muscle car segment. As it was offered with a 400 or 455 V-8 and a choice of either a manual or automatic transmission. In 1968 the GTO was recognized as the Motor Trends Car of the Year.
