The Chevrolet Corvette (C5) is a sports car produced by the Chevrolet division of General Motors for the 1997 through 2004 model years. 1966 continued the domination of the market that was created by the Mustang. No one else had a pony car and Ford recognized this and ran with it. The Mustang was Ford-s most successful launch since the Model A and has been in production since being introduced in mid 1964. The original Ford Mustang I four-seater concept car had evolved into the 1963 Mustang II two-seater prototype, which Ford used to pretest how the public would take interest in the first production Mustang which was released as the 1964 1/2, with a slight variation on the frontend and a top that was 2. 7 inches shorter than the 1963 Mustang II. Introduced early on April 17, 1964, and thus dubbed as a '19641/2' model by Mustang fans. In 1984 Chevrolet introduced 'the Camaro that thinks it's a Corvette' or the IROC-Z. IROC-Z or the International race of champions was a sanctioned SCCA event that matched up the best of the best auto racers in identically prepared cars. Although it was a complete fan favorite it had sponsorship issues beginning in 2006 and would end its storied run a year later. Much like the series Chevy's IROC-Z would have a short but truly loved life.
