This beautiful truck has been in the same family since 1940. When it was passed down to the second generation, the truck was fully restored (in 2001). The body was stripped and straightened. The paint is a deep glossy black and really shows off the lines on this truck. The bed is lined with beautifully stained wood which looks wonderful. The original drive train was rebuilt and has only traveled about 1,000 miles since. The flat head V8 engine makes a great sound and gives plenty of power for cruising around town. This beautifully built Highboy features a high quality Gibson body which rides on performance suspension. The front end has independent suspension with tubular A-arms and coil over shocks. The front features rack and pinion steering and disc brakes. The rear suspension is a four link set up which rides nicely between a sporty feel and a comfortable ride. The healthy mill providing the push for this sleigh is a 350 CID V8 which is mated up to a reliable Turbo-Hydramatic Automatic Transmission. This small block is dressed with plenty of sparkle including a polished scoop, aluminum intake, and polished valve covers. This rod sports a full hood and sides, but would look equally as impressive with those removed. The finish is slick and smooth and is a stunning shade of plum. The sides and hood are free of louvers to give a very clean smooth look. A subtle pinstripe completes the look. The soft top for this roadster is a high quality canvas with a nice boot to cover it when not in use. Lotus rolled out their first Esprit in 1976 which featured a 2. 0L Inline 4 cylinder. The idea was a lightweight fiberglass body wrapped around a steel backbone which housed a mid mounted engine which delivered power to the rear wheels. The formula was one for a very sporty car which was fine tuned over the years. Power increased slightly and into the 1980s Lotus even added a Turbo to the 4 cylinder. This made for a nicely balanced car which was loved by enthusiasts. In 1996 Lotus released a big surprise in the form of a self-developed 3. 5 Liter aluminum V8 with is augmented by twin Garrett Turbochargers. This set up was capable of 500+ HP but was detuned to a safer 350 HP to prevent gearbox damage. The standard transmission is a 5 speed manual Renault transmission. Tests in the day achieved 0-60MPH in 4. 4 seconds and a top speed of over 175 MPH. With these stats, this 1997 model is still competitive against today's sports cars.
