From 1938 to 2003 Volkswagen produced more than 21. 5 million Beetles. In 1971 the Super Beetle was introduced, featuring a McPherson strut front suspension and a redesigned front end, resulting in a tighter turning radius, despite having a 20mm longer wheelbase, and doubling the front cargo volume. In 1973 a curved windscreen was introduce allowing for a redesigned padded dashboard.
