The first- generation C/K series was the first General Motors pickup to be built on a body on frame platform. Using a drop-center frame design that was stronger than its predecessor which allowed for the cabin to be mounted seven inches lower. A redesign that created a lower center of gravity and improved stability. Coil springs were added to the front end in 1963 to save space and improve overall durability. The first- generation C/K has become known as the General Motors first pickup to take on all the challenges an owner could throw at it. Reliability and durability had now become common place in the pickup truck market.
