Though many people believe the first coupe utility was the 1957 Ford Ranchero but in actuality Ford of Australia released one in 1934. GM followed suite in 35 but the American market would not see one until the release of the Ford Ranchero in 1957. Chevrolet responded in 1959 by bringing out the El Camino which oddly enough would be the only year that the two would directly compete against each other. Reintroduced in 64 and based on the' A' body platform the El Camino was now more of a car than earlier years. This 69 has the car part down but with its rhino lined bed it could double as a light duty truck if needs be. The exterior of this El Camino is not for the faint of heart with the red paint yelling 'over here' for the entire world to hear. A new, more modern look came in 1967, along with a new nickname: 'Action Line'. It was with this revision of the C/K truck that General Motors began to add comfort and convenience items to a vehicle line that had previously been for work purposes alone. Updated styling features for the 1967 Chevy Pickup trucks came with new body sheet metal that helps fight rust and a pickup box made of double-walled steel. The majority of 10 and 20 series Chevrolet trucks from 1967 to 1972 were built with a coil spring trailing arm rear suspension, which greatly improved the ride over traditional leaf springs. The 1972 models were virtually identical to 1971 models, with the only change being the rear view mirror was glued to the windshield instead of being bolted to top of the cab, and metal or vinyl-covered flat door panels were no longer available; all trim level door panels were molded plastic with integral armrests and wood grain inserts on Cheyenne and Sierra trim levels. This El Camino is a mean one! Power comes from a built 454, is mated to a Tremec 6-speed manual transmission and back to a Ford 9' rear-end housing 3. 55:1 Posi-Traction gears. Chevy Big Blocks are known for their ability to breath. Flowmaster 4400 Series mufflers and tuned Hedman full length headers let this Big Block do just that. When it fires up, get ready for some attention. There's nothing like the sound of a well-built Big Block. Putting this kind of power to the ground is no easy task for an El Camino. To help with that, adjustable coil over shocks transfer weight to the rear tires to aid in traction. Oversized front and rear sway bars keep the El Camino flat when taking a corner. Up front is a pair of dropped spindles giving the El Camino an aggressive stance. This El Camino is painted in a flashy Camaro Synergy Green with Black SS stripes and staggered chrome Crager wheels with radial rubber. The front tires measure 215/65R15 and 275/60R15s out back.
