1974 was a difficult year for the muscle car. Coming off of the 1973 OPEC oil embargo, engines had begun to get smaller, with fewer carburetor barrels, lower compression, and generally just began to feel anemic. Normally, all of these poor descriptors would fit a 1974 Dart, but not this Y-6 Gold one you see before you. This car has had new life breathed into it, in the form of a 340 CID V8 from a 1970 Dart. Only 600 miles on this amazing TR6 since it was fully restored! This car was stripped down to its bare body and underwent many hours of hard labor to get it just right. Once it was prepped , the underside was sprayed in a undercoating to protect it from rust, and the top-side was shot a Fire Mist Red to really make this car pop. When putting the brakes back on this car, nearly every component of the braking system was replaced or rebuilt including all of the brake lines running throughout the car which was filled with DOT 5. The engine also went through an overhaul which included replacing the time chain, camshaft gear, crankshaft gear, and all of the seals. The starter was rebuilt, a new fuel pump was installed, and the temperature and oil pressure sensors were replaced. Once the rebuild was completed, each cylinder had a compression test done and was on spec. The engine was then hooked up to the transmission which underwent the same treatment which included replacing the pressure plate, disc, throw out bearing, pilot bearing, and all of the seals. Some may call the 280ZX a Nissan, and they would be correct in a sense. The 280ZX was the first time that the Datsun badge was accompanied by the -by Nissan- subscript, and represented the changing of the brand in the American market, as the Datsun name was dropped altogether in 1986. In 1982, the 280ZX received a facelift, which came to be known as the Series II 280ZX. This included a revised B-pillar, pin-stripe style taillights, and of course the very cool asymmetrical NACA ducting in the hood. The sweeping roofline of this coupe is a classic shape that will not go out of style anytime soon. ASC is a coachbuilding company. Coachbuilding companies often marketed to new car dealerships, but they usually did not work for, or in conjunction with the car manufacturer. There were exceptions, however and this car is one of those exceptions. American Sunroof Company (ASC), a company which has converted over 1,000,000 cars, has had official relationships with many car companies. ASC's products are of such high quality that many manufacturers retain them to create convertibles. The volume of convertible sales is low enough that these manufacturers can't justify the cost of tooling up their own factories to make convertibles in-house like they used to. General Motors sold Cadillac El Dorado Convertibles from ASC in the 1984 and 1985 model years, which were sold in Cadillac dealerships. In this case, it was handled in two different ways. Some of them were sold as regular production 'factory convertibles. ' GM handled the logistics of these 'factory' conversions and sold the cars to dealers under the RPO system (regular production option).
