Many people think that the Ranchero was the first 'Coupe Utility-, the class that these types of vehicles are considered. Actually the class was created long before the Ranchero way back in 1934. Brought to life due to a note from a farmer's wife requesting 'a vehicle to go to church in on Sunday and take the pigs to the market on Monday'. The line was very successful until the war broke out and would not reappear until the Ranchero in 1957. The El Camino has a story of its own beginning life in 1959 but only for two years, reappearing in 1964 as an all new 'utility' model. The performance oriented version, or SS, would not appear until 1966 when GM decided to add the 375 HP 396 to the lineup. The El Camino would see a total of 5 generations or body styles with the 5th and last one running from 1978-1987. This beauty is one of those elusive last year conversion built SS models that have seen a recent surge in popularity.
