Introduced in October of 1962, the Riviera was initially a side project for GM head of design William L. Mitchell, and was intended to compete with the popular Ford Thunderbird. This was to be the ultimate personal luxury coupe. The exterior design resembled that of a coke bottle, with the middle of the body tapered and tucked-in.
