The Galaxie name was used on Ford's full-size cars from 59 to 61 to try and cash in on the excitement of the space race. Starting in 1962 they added the 500 and 500XL to the name plate in order to denote its top of the line cars. Competing head to head with Chevrolet's Impala SS, the full-size convertible market was very tough but Ford held their own with a lineup of Galaxies that offered all the muscle and style a driver could ever want.
