The Mercedes-Benz 280SL (model W113) is a two-seat roadster/coupe, introduced in 1968, and produced from 1968 through 1971. It replaced the 250 SL. Of the 23,885 W113 280 SLs produced, more than half were sold in the US. The comparatively short and wide chassis, combined with an excellent suspension, powerful brakes, and radial tires gave the W113 superb handling for its time. The styling of the front, with its characteristic upright headlights and simple chrome grille, dominated by the large three-pointed star in the nose panel, paid homage to the then already legendary 300 SL roadster. 1971 marked the end of production for the now classic and highly sought after 280 SL. Beginning production in 1963 as the 230 model this was the first with what know as of today as crumple zones. Mercedes marketed it as a 'safety body' with front and rear impact absorbing sections this car was definitely before its time.
