American Austin Car Company was founded in 1929, in Butler, Pennsylvania, in premises that had belonged to the Standard Steel Car Company. [2] Their intention was to assemble and sell in the United States a version of the Austin 7 car, called American Austin. [3] After some initial success the Great Depression set in, and sales fell off to the point that production was suspended. In 1934 the company filed for bankruptcy. In 1935, Roy Evans, a former salesman for Austin, bought out the bankrupt company, which was reorganized under the name American Bantam. Production was resumed in 1937, and continued through 1941. Despite a wide range of Bantam body styles, ranging from light trucks to woodie station wagons, only about 6,000 Bantams of all types were produced. The MGA is a British sports car produced by MG in Abingdon England from 1955-1962. It was introduced to replace the MG TF 1500 Midget and represented a complete styling break from MG-s earlier sports cars. The car was officially launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show and a total of 101,081 were made over the whole production span. In May 1959 the standard cars received an updated engine and now at 1588 cc it produced 79. 5 bhp (59 kW; 81 PS). At the front, disc brakes were fitted, but drums remained in the rear. This is a 1600 car with a 4 speed transmission. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears are all synchronized but 1st is not.
