Mechanically, the most significant change was the adoption of staggered rear shocks which is one in front of the rear axle, one behind the rear axle to counteract wheel hop under hard acceleration. The high-performance Super Sport (SS) package had its own distinct decoration including a cowl hood with simulated vents, 'bumble bee' stripes encircling from nose to tail and the iconic SS badges, a heavy-duty suspension and larger D70-series tires on 15-inch wheels.
