The British Triumph Stag was designed to compete directly with the Mercedes-Benz SL class models. All Stags were four-seater convertible coups, but for structural rigidity- and to meet proposed American rollover standards of the time- the Stag required a B-pillar 'roll bar' hoop connected to the windscreen frame by a T-bar. Near the end of the 60's British manufacturer Triumph decided to replace the TR5 and naturally the TR6 was born. The TR6 production would run for the better part of a decade spanning 1968-1976. At its time it outperformed all previous TR6s in sales. Of the over 90k TR6s made over the years less than 10% were actually sold in the United Kingdom, all other were exported.
