Translated as -The Peoples Car- Volkswagens helped to put many people in the world on the road with 4 wheels and all of the basic equipment you need and nothing you don-t. In the late 1970-s Volkswagen began creating special edition cars including this Champagne Edition II. Of the 18,511 Super Beetle convertibles produced in 1978 there were only 2 Champagne II editions delivered to each dealer resulting in a total of only 1,100 ever produced. This particular edition was only available in Peach Metallic and Ancona Blue Metallic and featured upgraded white Ermine vinyl upholstery, ivory convertible top and faux rosewood dash trim. This cute little survivor is believed to have original paint, upholstery and convertible top. The 1600 CC Air-Cooled motor that is stamped and verified to be within actual production range of the car (basically numbers matching in VW lingo) starts up and runs fantastic. This fun little sunroof bug comes to us in great condition with a ton of cool features that are sure to excite any VW enthusiast. Originally from the factory this Beetle was powered by a 1300cc 50hp engine but that has since been replaced with the more common 1600cc dual port engine. The 1600cc in the back of this bug has been outfitted with upgrades such as dual carburetors which make acceleration a breeze and as anyone who is serious about their air cooled VW can tell that maintenance has been done correctly just by looking at the fuel filter, no cheap plastic fuel filter to dry out and catch fire, just a marine grade glass filter. The Deserter kit cars were produced by the Dearborn and Autodynamics Corporation in the late 1960's and early 1970's and were designed to fit on a VW chassis. They produced three different versions over that time span, the S1, GT, and GS models. This particular Deserter is a GT model that was advertised as an 'all-new, all weather' buggy which incorporated a hardtop design that not only has a sports car feel on the road but is also fit for an off-road adventure. This Deserter is equipped with the optional gull-wing door hardtop that not only gives it a cool look but keeps inclement weather out as well. This is not your normal buggy as you can tell. This one has 80896 actual miles and has a metallic gold flake paint job. The buggy is free from rust and drives like a dream! It has been fitted with back seats for the kiddos & they do have seat belts, front seats are without seatbelts. It sits on Mickey Thompson tires & steel wheels. The lightweight tube frame is from Chenworth and is finished in bright yellow. The buggy has everything needed to be street legal! Headlights, turn signals, a glass windshield, and seatbelts keep you safe and legal. To provide the 'GO' for this buggy, the engine is a built 2180cc VW flat 4. The engine was built by Archway Import Auto Parts in St Louis, MO. The rebuild has only a couple hundred miles since being done.
