The Chevelle was introduced in 1964 and was intended to be direct competition for Ford's rather popular Fairlane. Little did they know it would wind up being one of the most memorable cars GM ever produced. The 1969 Chevelle marked the first year that the SS was just an option and not an actual line of vehicles making them very hard to document today. This Red beast definitely has the look of a SS but once you fire it up you know that this is something more. Under the hood lies an astounding 502 cubic inch big block that sounds as good as it looks. With a set of custom heads and large cam it is believed to be putting out over 500 horses. Taming all that power requires a transmission that can handle it. Having that said a Turbo 400 was sourced, built to handle the extra power and installed. In 1969 there were three body styles to the Corvette; the coupe, the convertible, and the roadster. Most are familiar with the first two, but the roadster was a bit of a rare vehicle. It is essentially a hardtop convertible, but with no installed soft top. Because of this, you have all the benefits of a convertible, but with the interior space and structural rigidity of a coupe. This particular roadster is powered by a modified 370 CID small block Chevrolet engine producing around 460hp and just about 430ft-lb or torque. The car was originally owned by a Chevrolet dealer as a demonstration car in Colorado, and was rebuilt in 1993 by that same dealer. Originally, the car was a blue exterior with blue interior, 350 CID rated at 300hp, factory air, and 3. 26 rear gears. When the dealer had the car rebuilt, the started with the engine by sending it to a local shop to have them build it into the monster that it is today. 1969 was a great year for the muscle car world in general. Manufacturers were going bigger and badder than ever with hopped up 400+HP big block motors were common place. Chevy had the potent 427 which was introduced to production in Mid 65 after cleaning everyone's clock at the Daytona 500 in 63. The Chevelle offered the 427 and was an instant success with the 69 becoming even more popular the last couple of years. This 69 has been treated to a complete restoration with many things going back to its former glory. The body itself was in good shape retaining all of its original sheet metal. This gave room in the budget for the removal of the vinyl top and all of the smoothing out of the roof that goes with it. With everything stripped down the original glacier blue paint was laid down and looks amazing on this beauty. This '69 Corvette coupe is in a beautiful shade of Red over black vinyl interior complimented by rally wheels, black rocker panels and optional side louver trim. Powering this gorgeous 1969 Corvette is a 350 horsepower 350 cubic inch small block V8. This would be the optional higher horsepower small block offered in 1969. The next available engine would be a 427. A lot of people preferred the small block due to less weight over the front end making for better cornering abilities and a cooler running engine that also led to less heat making its way into the passenger compartment.
