Thunderbolts were special edition factory built big block race cars built in 1964 featuring a 427 CID V8 that produced 425 horsepower, lightweight fiberglass hood, and no frills optioning. Ford produced an even 100 Thunderbolts, 49 were manual transmissions and 51 were automatic transmissions, just enough for Ford to qualify for the 1964 NHRA Super Stock title. These Fairlanes were built in the Dearborn, MI plant as Fairlane 500 2 door sedans. All the sound deadener, sealer, and insulation were not installed, also these cars had no radio, heater, or rear window cranking mechanisms.
