Thunderbolts were special edition factory built big block race cars built in 1964 featuring a 427 CID V8 that produced 425 horsepower, lightweight fiberglass hood, and no frills optioning. Ford produced an even 100 Thunderbolts, 49 were manual transmissions and 51 were automatic transmissions, just enough for Ford to qualify for the 1964 NHRA Super Stock title. It started lift as a standard Mustang coupe, and now is anything but. The doors forward is all -68 material, but the rear has been massaged and adapted to the vision of the builder. The rear windshield and pillars were replaced with parts from a -99 Mustang so the owner could have a rear window defrost. The trunk was taken from a similar year Mercury Cougar to have a longer trunk to hold more supplies for shows and road trips. This great 54 F250 is certainly a rare sight in any of our showrooms. Usually we are replete with your slew of F1's and F100's but vary rarely do we see a 3/4 ton roll through that has had this amount of care taken in the restoration. This is an actual 2 owner truck that was purchased by its first owner, a central Illinois farmer new in 1954 and was with him for 45 years before he retired it to the barn.
