In 1964 the Chevelle was originally Chevrolet's response to the demand for the smaller-sized car market, which had been successfully tapped into by American Motor's Rambler. Riding on a 115-inch wheelbase, the Chevelle was based on a new A platform design, and became American's second best-selling car of its time.
