1966 Pontiac GTO

View Description

The Pontiac GTO is an automobile that was built by Pontiac from 1964 to 1974. The first generation GTO was a muscle car of the 1960s and 1970s era. Although there were earlier muscle cars, the Pontiac GTO is considered by some to have started the trend with all four domestic automakers offering a variety of competing models. In 1966 the GTO became its own model until 1972. In 1973 GTO became an option again but for the Le Mans. In 1974 GTO then became an option on the Ventura. The GTO became a separate Pontiac model (model number 242 found at th beginning of the VIN) in 1966, instead of being an 'option package' on the Tempest LeMans. Pontiac's intermediate line was restyled, gaining more curvaceous styling with kicked-up rear fender lines for a 'Coke-bottle' look, and a slightly 'tunneled' backlight. The tail light featured a rare louvered cover, only seen on the GTO. Engine and carburetor choices were the same as the previous year, with the Tripower option as seen being king of course. The TH400...

1966 Pontiac GTO

View Description

This particular generation GTO was very special. In 1966 the Green Bay Packers win the NFL championship game; the population in the US was just below 200 million and Pontiac was working to change the automobile industry. For many car enthusiasts the first real muscle car was the 1966 Pontiac GTO. Fort Lauderdale is proud that this beautiful vehicle has found its way to us after 50 years. We are talking about the real deal --242 (two four two). Yes, not a clone or tribute. This pure muscle car is in excellent condition in and out. After 5 decades this GTO looks fantastic. This car was professionally restored. The exterior and the interior are just clean and in great condition. The body is laser straight and the alignments are flush. No damage on the convertible top. Clean engine compartment and undercarriage. For sure the best is...

1964 Pontiac GTO

View Description

1964 was the first year for the Pontiac GTO and what a first year it was! The GTO was an option package that could be ordered on the LeMans model that included a 389 CID V8, stiffer suspension, and a Hurst 3-speed manual transmission. A few of the popular options included a Muncie 4-Speed and a Tripower setup which was a modest 23 horsepower increase over the single 4 barrel carburetor, but oh what a look! This outstanding '64 has gone through a ground up, body off restoration with only 759 miles since completion. Originally this GTO was painted in Yorktown Blue with dark blue interior, with a 3-speed manual on the floor, with a single 4 barrel carburetor feeding fuel to the 389. As with a lot of muscle cars from the sixties, the original engine is long gone. Now in its place is a rebuilt, period correct 389 CID V8, backed by a Muncie 4-speed with a Hurst shifter on the floor, running to a 12 bolt limited slip rear end with 3. 90 gears. The car is now painted in a beautiful Gulfstream Aqua which was a factory GTO color in 1964. The interior was also totally gone...
