1949 introduced Mercury's first Post-War redesign. The '49s featured a 'pontoon fender' shape which appeared aerodynamic and differentiated it from the Fords of the time. This new design was a recipe for success and the 49 model sold incredibly well. Coupes, sedans, wagons, and even convertibles were available. Perhaps the most unique is the Sports Sedan, a sleek 4 door which features rearward opening rear doors. Having these 'suicide' doors from the factory, almost makes it look custom right out of the box. This sports sedan has the proper 255 CID Flat Head V8 backed by a traditional 3 speed manual transmission which is shifted on the column. In addition, this one is optioned with Overdrive which is activated by pulling a handle under the dash.
