Following the success of Pontiac's GTO, Oldsmobile began cramming big V-8s into mid-sized A-body hardtops, and the 442 was born.

The 442 moniker represented 4-barrel V-8, 4-speed transmission, and dual exhaust. The 442 was initially offered on Oldsmobile's F85 and Cutlass trim's, in 1968 the 442 became its own model. Available in a 2-door sports coupe, holiday hardtop coupe, and convertible. Powering this 67' 442 is a 455 CID V8 with an Edelbrock aluminum intake. The 4-speed manual transmission transfers the power to the 12-bolt rear end and to the pavement via the Radial T/As. Front and rear sway bars have been added to improve the handling of this big sports car as well. This Cobra is built on a Factory Five first edition body style and has been painted in silver with 2 black racing stripes running straight down center. Under the hood lies a rebuilt Ford 302 paired to a manual 5 speed transmission. The motor has received some upgraded parts as well. It has; Ford High Performance cam and lifters, aluminum performance intake, a new quick fuel carb 650 CPM with an electronic choke, coated headers, big radiator, two fans, and more. The engine has about 7000 miles on it since the rebuild and the odometer reads 7600. The gear ratio is 3:73. 1969 was a banner year for muscles cars. Lincoln-Mercury or L-M as they were known even introduced a whole new advertising theme. The 'Streep Scene' as they called it was the street and strip, which to them was a whole new ball game. With the introduction of the Eliminator line of Cougars they finally had a viable option that would compete with the other High Po pony cars out there. The base engine, as in this one, would be the very stout 351 4v Windsor engine which put out a very under rated 290 HP with a tire shredding 385 lbs/ft of torque. This numbers matching original California car has went through an extensive restoration giving you the excellent example you see today. Since the only rust was a 2' round area on the passenger door all of the original sheet metal was able to be retained. With the car ready to be painted the decision was made to go back just the way it came, after all this is only 1 of 51 made, so the color code was obtained and the classic white paint was laid down giving the car a factory quality finish.
