Already fairly rare in the market, the 1964 1/2 Mustangs were considerably unique to the later produced 1965 Mustangs, with very subtle differences. The most obvious differences were the choice of engines, with this one being a 'U' code 170 cid Inline 6. This engine was later dropped by Ford and replaced by the 200 cid Inline 6. These little 6 cylinders might not have made an impressive amount of horsepower, but they were one of the most solid and reliable engines made during this generation. The transmission is a 3-speed manual, which gave the driver full control of the powerband on these engines, which ultimately got fantastic fuel mileage for the time, with some estimates reaching over 20 miles per gallon! Some of the more subtle differences noted in these cars and the 1965's were the hood having rounded edges where it meets the headlight buckets, and the spacing of the word Mustang on both Fenders. The 1965 Mustang was the automaker's most successful launch since the Model A. It was originally based on the platform of the second generation North American Ford Falcon. This all stock 289 V8 C-code engine, with a C4 automatic is the true meaning of entry level for the Mustang enthusiast. Under the hood of this Mustang you will find what is believed to be the original 289 V8 with a 2 barrel carburetor. While the current owner does know if the engine has been rebuilt, it doesn-t smoke or burn oil, and has excellent throttle response.
