Made extremely popular during the 1950's-1970's, the Volkswagen Beetle has a cult following all its own. Ultimately the Volkswagen Beetle is designed for military simplicity, the cars follow a basic guideline of having a rear mounted engine/transmission, allowing these cars to be built, broken down, and then rebuilt within the same day no matter what might happen to it. The engine is an air cooled 1500cc 4 cylinder, which despite not having the same horsepower levels as most cars of this era, does a great job of showing itself off due to how lightly engineered it is. The transmission is a 4-speed manual transmission, original to the car as well as the engine, and is just as fundamental and well built as the day it rolled off the factory floor. This great looking 66 Beetle is an awesome example of the classic symbol of the free love movement from the 60's. 1966 had some minor changes to the classic BUG as most people refer to it as. The clutch cable that was notorious for breaking was now protected inside a rubber hose. The steering knuckle is connected to the torsion arms making them maintenance free. The biggest improvement was the suspension which required VW to modify the frame head making it much more rigid. This particular bug had the 1300cc motor replaced with a much stronger 1600cc motor that sounds, feels, and looks like it is relatively new. In 1972, VW marketed their top of the line Beetle in the US as the Super Beetle. This model included the Luxus or -L- package (upgrades such as twin map pockets, dual rear ashtrays, full carpeting, a passenger-side visor vanity mirror, and rubber bumper moldings). The rear-mounted, air-cooled 1600cc engine, which produced 60 efficient, German horsepower also featured twin-port cylinder heads and a larger, relocated oil cooler.
