The Nova debuted in 1961 for the 1962 model years as the Chevy II. This was Chevrolets answer to the Ford Falcon. The Nova nameplate finally became used for the 2nd generation in 1966. While the Chevy Nova would see 5 generations, in total, until 1988. Many consider the 3rd gen Nova the crme de la crme.
