1961 saw the first year of the third generation for the successful Impala. The new design was trimmer and boxier than its predecessor. While there were a few different trims for 1961 what we have here is the sport coupe which offered a thin rear roof pillar and an oversized rear window. In time this is what enthusiasts would come to call the bubbletop. Highly sought after by collectors for their design and value, these specific Impalas are easily identified and turn heads everywhere! This fine example upon approach you are dazzled with light glinting off the chrome and fresh Black paint. The stance of this car is right because of the airbags on all four corners. This car can go from low rider to hot rod is about 10 seconds flat. The giant chrome rims with the low profile tires really set the car off. The Impala was introduced for the 1958 model year as top of the line Bel Air hardtops and convertibles. From the windshield pillar rearward, the 1958 Bel Air Impala differed structurally from the lower-priced Chevrolet models. The wheelbase of the Impala was longer than the lower priced models, although the overall length was identical. Interiors held a two-spoke steering wheel and color-keyed door panels with brushed aluminum trim. No other series included a convertible. This 1962 Chevrolet Impala shows only 2859 miles showing on the odometer. Reassembled with the intent for Pro-Touring, this Impala drives as good as it looks. 1st glance from the outside will not give much away to the beastly nature of this Impala. The beautiful two toned PPG Galaxy Silver and Medium Marblehead paint really brings out the exterior and the changes that have been incorporated into this awesome piece of Machinery. Most of the exterior changes are subtle, but have been well thought out. The top has been chopped 2. 5 inches from the original. In order to achieve the correct fit and finish, the molding and glass were shortened to fit the top. Other changes have been made to the body panels, including a shortened deck lid reversed gas door and altered side trim offsetting the shaved door handles and emblems. The chrome bumpers have been reworked, which included narrowing and smoothing to better fit the exterior. The biggest exterior change may go unnoticed until you look a bit closer. The hood has been reworked and now extends all the way back to windshield, which gives the Impala a smoother and cleaner look. Lifting open the reversed full length...

Oh man, it's the Bubbletop. 1960 was the first of only two years for the Bubbletop and that is just a shame. These are the cars that dreams are made of. The beautiful body lines with those horizontal fins. The chrome. The huge back windshield. Everything about this car screams cool, and it just needs a cool new owner. This example is right up there with the top dogs. Restored back to factory specs, this car looks like it did in 1960. The red exterior paint is in good shape and is probably a 7. 5 out of 10 with only a couple minor touch ups. The red and white original interior looks amazing. The real meat and potatoes of this car is the original 348 CI Big Block V8 with 3-dueces sitting under the hood mated to a Th350 that was added to help this car become the driver that it is.
