The late --60s saw the birth of the Muscle Car movement that became a phenomenon throughout the entire world. By the 1970-s the -Big 3- were in competition to create muscle cars that could be custom ordered with big block engines and other high performance options. The Chevrolet Chevelle was the Zenith of the line and the SS 454 set the bar for all muscle cars of that era. This LS5 is a prime example of a numbers matching big-block with all of good stuff. To start this Cranberry Red beauty has gleaming paint with a black stripe running past the chrome hood pins right up to the vacuum powered cowl induction. The first generation GTO was a muscle car of the 1960s and 1970s era. Although there were earlier muscle cars, the Pontiac GTO is considered by some to have started the trend with all four domestic automakers offering a variety of competing models. The GTO underwent a few styling changes in 1967. The louver-covered tail lights were replaced with eight tail lights, four on each side. Rally II wheels with colored lug nuts were also available in 1967. The GTO emblems located on the rear part of the fenders were moved to the chrome rocker panels. Also the grill was changed from a purely split grill, to one that shared some chrome. The GTO for sale also saw several mechanical changes in 1967. The Tripower carburetion system was replaced with a Rochester Quadrajet four-barrel carburetor. The 389 engine received a larger cylinder bore for a total displacement of 400 CID (6. 5 L) V8. This is a car that has the best of both worlds: classic styling inside and out from 1964, but modern day creature comforts hidden nicely underneath. On the outside we have a '64 Falcon Futura finished in white which looks stock save for some 5 spoke chrome wheels. The paint is very slick and shows off the straight body. The trim is in great shape including beautifully chromed front and rear bumpers. The interior is black vinyl which has been beautifully done and still smells new. A tilt column has been added, but the rest appears quite stock. It has a modern stereo which mimics the look of an old AM unit and would fool most. Its under the hood and under the car where things start to look more than stock. Pop the hood to reveal a strong running 302 CID V8 which is nicely dressed wearing some two tone '302' valve covers. Sitting on top is an Edelbrock carburetor and the engine exhales through manifolds with dual exhaust.
