Steve Saleen was a formula Atlantic race car driver before he started putting superchargers in production Mustangs. 1985 was the first year that he put a supercharger in a production Mustang. Fast forward a couple decades and you have this beast. The first thing you notice about this Saleen is it's mere physical presence. When Ford needed to catch up to the competition in the early sixties, they bored out their venerable FE work horse from 390ci to 406ci. Then Ford baked in some hi-performance spice into the heads, carbs and cam and the Legendary 405hp 406 v8 was born! This motor was the basis for Ford's amazing hi-po big block bruisers of the mid to late 60s like the 427, and 428 Cobra Jet. This 1963 Galaxie XL, 2dr coupe is everything street racers would have ordered back in 1963. Black paint, 2dr post body, no AC, no power steering, no power brakes. In 1934, Ford vehicles transitioned to a more aerodynamic shape, with a shield-shaped grille.
