What is a restomod? It is a restored and modified car that brings together the looks of the classic car you love, while giving modern performance and creature comforts. So, how does one achieve this? How about taking a 68 Mustang Fastback and dropping 427 cubic inches of raw steel and sex appeal under the hood for starters? A 351 Windsor has been bored and stroked to 427 cubic inches with AFR aluminum heads, Edelbrock intake, 4 barrel carburetor with electric choke, Northern aluminum radiator, Shelby valve covers and air cleaner, MSD 6AL ignition box, MSD coil, and MSD billet distributor add up to a documented 611 rear wheel horsepower! This is all backed up by a TKO 600 five speed manual transmission with performance bell housing and clutch, running to a Heidts IRS rear end with inboard disc brakes, adjustable coil overs and 3. 55:1 gears. If you are a Mustang enthusiast then you have probably heard about the Shelby, Hertz program. This is one of those cars. Originally shipped to a Ford dealer in Richmond Va. This car is in the Shelby registry. The deal with the Hertz Corporation to offer 1,000 G. T. 350s for rental that, after their rental-car lives were finished, were returned to Ford, refurbished, and sold to the public as 'G. T. 350H' models. Most Hertz cars were black with gold LeMans stripes and rocker panel stripes, although a few were white with blue stripes. The car has all its original sheet metal and is a rust-free car. The undercarriage is original and has only been touched up. It still has chalk marks from the factory. This car was repainted in 2013 and is now base coat clear coat. The rocker stripes have been clear coated as well. The first 85 Hertz cars were available with four-speed manual transmissions and Hertz advertised them as 'Rent-a-Racer' cars. This Camaro has been through over 5 years of thoughtful and painstaking build-out. Initially a mild restomod process was planned; but, as most car people know, things can go from mild to wild in just a few beats. According to its trim plate, it was originally LeMans Blue, however, it was completely stripped and treated to its nearly completely blacked-out look. With nearly $72K in paint and bodywork receipts documenting the extent of the time-consuming work involved in getting it to this awesome looking result, it's evident that its owner spared little expense in achieving the outcome he was looking for. Starting with a very clean 1969 Camaro, this black beauty was taken down to bare metal before the transformation began. A 6. 2L GM LS3 crate engine and a 4L85E 4-speed automatic transmission were selected for the powertrain, making this a 'daily-driver-ready' sled. However, in keeping with the desire to have a more unique look (than most LS-based restomod projects do in the engine bay), an Edelbrock 71413 LS3 Cross-Ram intake manifold was chosen for the top end; plus, twin custom-fabbed cold air intakes were built for it. This stunner features a Ford Performance Gen 2 5. 0L Coyote crate engine and it is mated to a 6-speed manual MT82 transmission pumping out roughly 450 horsepower. To fit the dual overhead cam mill into the older car's engine bay, Tucci ended up cutting the shock towers and capped them to clear the new motor and retain the stock coil-over mounting points.
